Award to be presented at JWHL Playoffs

The Junior Women's Hockey League is proud to announce that it is creating a Player of the Year award in Honor of Elizabeth "Liz" Turgeon.  Liz, daughter of retired 19 year NHL veteran Pierre Turgeon, was tragically killed in a car accident on December 23rd, 2010.  The first 'JWHL Elizabeth Turgeon Player of the Year Award' will be presented during the JWHL playoff championship weekend at the University of Wisconsin March 11-13, 2011.

At 5'11", Liz was an enormous presence on the ice, and a force within the JWHL as a member of the Colorado Select.  During the 2009-2010 season, Liz was one of the leagues top scorers and performers.  She also represented the United States at the first IIHF U-18 World Championship in 2008, winning a gold medal in Calgary, Alberta.  Her athletic gifts and character earned her a full scholarship to the University of Minnesota.

Liz will forever be remembered for her exceptionally positive attitude, sportsmanship, fierce competitive nature, and her selfless love of her teammates.
